# 2907  Spencerport Scores Last Four to Win by One

Spencerport only led for just under two minutes during their 10-9 win over Churchville-Chili tonight in the opening round of the Class B Tournament.  The eighth seeded Rangers played the ninth seeded Saints for the second time this season.  Their last matchup was less than a week ago with Spencerport winning that game 12-6.  Tonight, the Saints played a much stronger game and led for the majority; including a three goal lead halfway through the fourth quarter that Spencerport fought back against.

Thomas scored the first six goals in their 11-10 win over Churchville-Chili.  Although the Titans led by six twice during the contest, the Saints kept the game interesting in the fourth.  Churchville-Chili came within one goal twice in the final quarter, but could not tie the game.  Their 10th goal was scored with 3:04 remaining, but they did not get the needed 11th goal before time expired.

Webster Schroeder fought back from a four goal deficit to defeat Churchville-Chili 9-8 in the first overtime period.  The Warriors scored the final five goals (including the overtime goal) in the win.  They held the Saints scoreless for 13 minutes.

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: Churchville-Chili won their game with East United with eleven players making the offensive book led by Eli Chalmers who had 6g-11a and a hand in all seven second half goals. Joseph Gibson won 14 faceoffs for the Saints who will play Schroeder on Tuesday. East United will play BAND on 5/30.

# 2855  Newark, C-C and McQ Win on Wednesday

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were four games played today and most were mismatches. Newark held BAND scorerless for three quarters as seven players made the offensive book which was led by Jayden Shepherd with 3g-2a and Matt Card (4g). Talyn Pierce had 13s for the Reds. McQuaid Jesuit scored seven unanswered goals in the seconds quarer on their way to a 16-3 win at Catherdral Prep. Nine players made the book led by Ryan McEvily with (4g). The Knights (6-2) will play Livonia-Avon on Thursday. Churchville-Chili were led by Pat Mitchell (6g-3a) and Eli Chalmers (5g-4a) in their win over Gates Chili. Aquinas and Nichols played a close game right down to the end, but came up short in the 6-8 loss when the Vikings scored scored four unanswered goals in the third quarter.

Churchville-Chili used a strong second quarter to secure the 11-10 win over Rush Henrietta.  The Saints scored the game winning goal with only 0:11 remaining on the clock with an unassisted goal from Patrick Mitchell.  Mitchell, who finished the game with 4 goals, scored the last two goals for the Saints.  Eli Chalmers also scored 4 goals for Churchville-Chili.  Rush-Henrietta was led in scoring by Luke Delavak (3g-2a).

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: R-H won their third game with a win against Livonia-Avon. After leading for the majority of three quarters, RH had to fight back in the final five minutes to defeat Livonia-Avon 10-9. The Royal Comets had not scored in over 12 minutes when Nick Cowie scored the game winning goal with 0:17 left in regulation. (Story Continues).

Senior Eli Chalmers fed Patrick Mitchell for the game winning goal 3:40 into the first overtime period to give Churchville-Chili the 12-11 win over Williamsville North.  Tonight was opening night of the new Saint’s turf field and Chalmers was a demonstrative force; he finished with 6g-3a and was a part of 75% off all Churchville-Chili goals.

Greece Storm scored five unanswered goals spanning the second and third quarters in their 8-5 win over Churchville-Chili. The Storm held the Saints scoreless for over 23 minutes in the contest.  They also spread out their offense with six players making the offensive book.  Jacob Holdaway led in scoring with 3 goals, including the last two.  Churchville-Chili had each of their five goals scored by a different athlete.

There were sixteen games played today as the regular season is starting to wind down. Pittsford came from behind to beat host Corning 8-7 in the closest game of the day. Thomas took Irondequoit by two (12-10) and Gananda beat Mynderse 11-8.

There were interesting games today and two of the more interesting were won by one goal. Thomas beat Fairport 12-11 and Penfield beat Penn Yan 9-8. Churchville-Chili defeated HFL 16-13 and Irondequoit defeated Brighton 10-7.

# 1435  Penn Yan Wins 23rd Title

Penn Yan won their 23rd Section Five Title tonight with an 8-6 win over Aquinas.  The Mustangs took an early 6-1 lead and held off the late advances by Aquinas.  The Little Irish scored five of the last seven goals to pull within two.  The  Final Aquinas goal was scored with 7:21 remaining and the final seven minutes were back and forth play with Penn Yan holding the ball and Aquinas trying to force their shots.

The All Tournament Teams for 2018 were announced at each final on Tuesday. The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Jack Cummings (Penfield) and in Class C was Sam Miller (Geneva). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: The championship games are now set for Classes B and C. In the Class B bracket, #1 Victor defeated #5 Schroeder 7-4 and #2 Thomas defeated #3 McQuaid Jesuit 16-7. In the Class D bracket, #1 Penn Yan defeated #5 Haverling 12-4 and #6 Aquinas had upset #2 Gananda 16-7.

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: Aquinas travelled to Buffalo for their 14-10 win over Canisius. Junior attackman Eli Chalmers led the offense with 5g-3a. Sebastian Gimeli won 14 of 21 draws for AQ. The Greece Storm won their eighth game of the season with their victory over Bloomfield-Honeoye. Junior attackman Paul Forte had 4g-2a in the game. After four ties, Marcus Whitman broke away from Newark in the third quarter and ended with a 9-6 win. Senior attackman Schuyler Bredesen led the offense with 5g. Michael Dhondt recorded 9 saves (60%) in the cage for the Wildcats.

# 1285  All Greater Rochester 2017

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle announced their 2017 All-Greater Rochester Lacrosse team today. The list features the top sixteen players and a number of honorable mentions were led by Canandaigua senior Attackman, Devin Andrews who was named "Player of the Year". Andrews, who was also a US Lacrosse All-American, scored 72 goals and 47 assists this year. The SportsFive Offensive Player of the Year plans to study and play at Stony Brook next year.

# 1256  Pal-Mac Wins First Sectional Title

Pal-Mac won their first even Section Five Championship with a 16-11 win over Honeoye Falls-Lima.  The Red Raiders lead for nearly the entire game.  The Cougars took an early lead; however, Pal-Mac took over late in the first quarter and slowly increased their lead for the remaining three quarters.  At the largest difference, the Red Raiders led by eight.  In addition to the boys, Pal-Mac girls also won the Section Five Championship with a 16-5 win over Penn Yan (HERE).

Aquinas took off in the second half and outscored Nichols 8-4 in the second half on their way to a 13-8 win over the Big Green.  In the first three quarters, both teams were back and forth and remained within two goals until the final minute of the third quarter.

# 510  One Goal Win for Aquinas

Aquinas scored four unanswered goals to secure the lead in their 8-7 win over RH. Although the Royal Comets started off the game, leading 4-2 after the first quarter, the Little Irish came back and scored six out of seven straight goals in the second and third quarters to hold a three goal lead near the end of the third quarter. The Royal Comets scored the final two goals of the game to bring the score to a single point differential.
